Sitio Bela Vista was purchased by José Leandro Romão in 1996, to help
promote the family businesses. This started a new chapter in José's
life, blossoming an interest in specialty coffee. He was one of the first
producers in the region of Espirito Santo to invest in increasing the
quality of his coffee, focusing on soil health and intercropping. After
placing first in three regional coffee quality contests in the early
2000s, his focus to innovate and achieve better results was spurred
further. The 20 hectare family run farm is planted mostly with Red and
Yellow Catuai, with José's children beginning to take over his mantle.
