Nestled in the mountainous Pichincha region near Quito, El Guayabal is perfectly situated to make the most of this high-altitude, equatorial micro-climate. The farm is in the heart of the Tulipe valley which was home to the pre-Incan Yumbo civilisation and the area is full of ruins and remains of Yumbo 'Tolas', tombs and bath-houses. We have been working in Ecuador for three years now and while the coffees are a lot of extra work and carry a high price, we love their unique flavour profile, more reminiscent of Kenyan or Ethiopian coffees than South American ones
