This lot from the Slopes of 8 Group is cultivated on neighbouring hills on the slopes of Mount Kenya, in Kirinyaga County. The group were a pioneering producer group, created in a farm-to-roaster sourcing model by Sucafina, who imported this lot. This model focuses on shortening the coffee value chain, aiming to empower producers. This also allows traceability to be maintained from farmer to roaster. Sucafina buys the groups' entire production, meaning they're guaranteed a good price for their entire crop. Each estate manages its harvest and processing, typically in the traditional Kenyan way of a 24hr wet fermentation after the pulping of cherry, before being fully washed and dried on raised beds for ~14 days, depending on weather conditions. The dry parchment is delivered to Kahawa Bora dry mill, owned by Sucafina Kenya, who also offers a range of support for the farmers to help improve the next year’s crop.
